Connecticut Micro Wedding | Carly & Brendan

May 30, 2020 was one of the absolute best days of my life. Brendan and I had been looking forward to our wedding day ever since we were two young highschool kids who fell in love back in 2011.

As essential personnel, we couldn’t stay home which posed a challenge when trying to piece together our wedding plans in the midst of a pandemic. There was an abundant amount of uncertainty when it came to our big day…Would I have my dress in time? Would Brendan be able to rent a tux? Would my flower order get here in time? Would our photographers be allowed to work? Our final plans came together with less than ten days left before our big day. Looking back, the days leading up to my wedding were all a blur.

Our wedding plans were changing daily as guidelines for COVID-19 continued to be sorted out. All that mattered, though, was that I got to walk down the aisle and exchange vows with the love of my life with 30 of our closest friends and family members present. St. Rose of Lima Church was able to livestream our big day for our friends and family at home who weren’t able to join us in person because of COVID-19 restrictions. My family in Australia woke up at 4:00AM to watch our ceremony!

My husband and I always tell people “We did the marriage part this year, and next year we get to have our wedding.” Getting married is what mattered the most to us. Whether it was going to be in the church, at the courthouse, or done via a Zoom call, we were getting married on May 30th no matter what.

Now, we get to look forward to celebrating our marriage at our rescheduled wedding reception which falls on our one year wedding anniversary. People ask me if I miss the experience of having a “real wedding.” I simply smile and say, “I didn’t miss out on anything.”

For any brides and grooms out there considering a microwedding, I say DO IT! You won’t regret it. The pandemic may alter your plans, but remember what the day is truly about: getting married to the one that you love. #loveisnotcancelled #whereitallmcgannon
